People who received frequent denteal x-rays have an increased risk for developing meningioma according to an article published in April of 2012 in the journal Cancer. About 1400 patients who got regular dental films and another 1400 controls showed that the risk for meningioma was increased 1.5-2.0 times higher in the x-rayed group. In those people who had panorex films when taken on a yearly basis was increased about 3 times. For kids under the age of 10 who had regular panorex films, the risk was 5 times higher.
There are previous studies showing that low dose radiation could be a risk factor for heart attacks and breast cancer.
