Omega 3 Fats Protect Against Nerve Damage

submitted by: admin on 10/12/2013

Research from the University of London published in the Journal of Neuroscience showed that omega-3 fatty acids can protect nerves from injury and help them regenerate. Researchers found that mice recovered from sciatic nerve injury more quickly and more fully and that muscles were less likely to waste if they had high levels of omega 3 fatty acids.

Unfortunately, most of us have major deficiencies in essential fatty acid levels. These fats cannot be made by the human body but are essential for life. Good sources are fish or krill oil and some seeds and nuts such as flax and hemp. They have many other uses such as keeping our blood thin, controlling cardiac arrhythmias, making healthy cell membranes, reducing inflammation and even water proofing the skin!

Newer research on the applications of infrared light therapy are discussed and their mechanism of action explained.
