Science and spirituality are on the same spectrum but on opposite poles. Vicki and I believe they are always perfectly aligned and congruent. Modern science does not understand the nature of spirit or how it works and rather than study it, it chooses to simply throw it out and leave it to the domain of the church. This is not good science! Hiding our scientific...

The results of a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial re-opened debate on whether it is ethical to conduct placebo-controlled studies because it puts those in the placebo group at the disadvantage of not being in the treatment arm. One could make the point that placebo is not really necessary because all that needs to be done is to see if patients...

Two MDs from Oxford, England published an article in the AMA's Journal of Ethics stating that they would consider forcibly injecting experimental vaccines "for the greater good of society." However, they preferred that a mandated choice required by law to compel people to state in advance their willingness to participate in vaccine trials.

The tobacco companies spend $20 billion per year to advertise their products. There are more than 4000 chemicals in tobacco smoke. The tobacco industry has added a number of chemicals that make it even...

The October 31, 2012 issue of Human Reproduction published an article from Harvard and Tufts Medical Centers stating that SSRI antidepressants should not be used in pregnancy because they lead to worsened pregnancy outcomes, have not been shown to be of benefit, and are massively overused in clinical practice. This family of drugs is associated with...

Combining SSRI antidepressants with aspirin or other NSAIDs can lead to a 42% increase risk for bleeding. SSRIs may inhibit the uptake and storage of serotonin by platelets. Low platelet serotonin leads to reduced platelet aggregation and a tendency to bleed.
Considering that SSRIs have little evidence that they work better than placebo and that...

Plant based diets help prevent cancer and its spread. Refined carbohydrates stimulate the growth of cancer. Real foods with sugars do not stimulate cancer. How can you clean up your act: create a natural environment. This in combination with oncology is a reasonable approach that works. We need open-minded oncologists for this.

Does stress management help people with cancer? It is clear that stress management helps everyone. Whether or not we can prove a beneficial effect on cancer depends on how a study is done. Hope, placebo, and positive attitude are a good things whether or not it helps the cancer itself.

Acupuncture has been touted to help stroke victims, but a study was done showing that it doesn't work. The study suffered from selection bias. Placebo effect is discussed. Getting better should be the bottom line, not whether or not the beneficial effect is placebo.

This is a landmark study documenting that elevating low levels of vitamin D makes a profound difference in mortality.
Low levels...

The CDC and FDA has recommended the swine flu vaccine with almost non-existing science regarding its effectiveness and its safety. The basis for making the decision to recommend the vaccine has been by proclamation! What little data that does exist in the medical literature about the effectiveness of influenza vaccines shows it doesn't work in either infants...

According to an article in the NY Times in January of 2013, it appears that Johnson and Johnson, the manufacturer of the DePuy metal on metal hip resurfacing prosthesis, knowingly and willingly sold this product even though they had full knowledge that it was defective and would cause widespread disability, suffering, and even deaths. More that 10,000...

According to the December 2012 issue of PLOS ONE, Iron plays a key role in metabolism that leads to bacteria and human beings competing to prevent the other from obtaining it. Bacteria are obligated to acquire iron to gain foothold to grow in host tissues. Cancer cells also sequester iron more effectively than normal cells. This is one of the reasons...

Placebo is powerful treatment that is safe, effective, and affordable. We screen this out in medicine, but this is not good science. Often the effect of a drug or technology is very minor compared to placebo, but we still prescribe the drug. SSRIs are all placebo according to recent studies. What we think has a profound effect on our biochemistry and...

A study in the UK published in the July 2013 issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry showed that gang members and violent men aged 18-34 had a very high incidence of antisocial behavior (86%), alcoholism (66%), drug addiction (57%), suicide attempts (34%), and anxiety (59%). They blamed this on a much higher incidence of psychiatric illness than...

SSRIs have been shown to be no better than placebo in a large metaanalysis. Psychiatry has taken a huge step backwards by turning to psychopharmacology. Treating symptoms rather than looking at the deeper causes of depression is naive except in rare occasions. Placebo is a powerful tool that evolkes the neurobiology of the body.
