American Cancer Society Waffles on Need for Screening Tests for Cancer

submitted by: admin on 06/18/2016
In a field plagued by frequent controversy, the American Cancer Society (ACS) claims to have taken a major step forward to provide transparency in how justified it is in recommending cancer screening tests. It blames oncologists with a conflict of interest...what would you expect from an organization that depends on income from big pharma and the mammography...

Aneuploidy and Cancer with David Rasnick Part 2

submitted by: admin on 05/12/2015
It is the number of chromosomes, not genes, that lead to the massive changes required for cancer. There are no confirmed cases of normal diploid cancer. Cancer cells are damaged cells that are trying to survive and as a consequence they cause disease. Gene theories do not explain the progression of cancer.

Biennial Mammograms are Sufficient to Screen for Breast Cancer

submitted by: admin on 11/23/2019
According to researchers at the University of California Medical Center, and published in the March issue of Internal Medicine, screening for breast cancer every two years is preferrable to yearly screens when doing mammograms. This was based on a study of 900,000 women. It appears that this applies to women from the age of 50-94. Mammograms picked...

Breast Cancer Before Age 40

submitted by: admin on 09/19/2013
Preventing breast cancer is best. Mammograms for early detection in women under 40 is very poor. They under & over diagnose far too often as do ultrasounds and MRIs. Breast thermography is far better.

Breast Cancer Can Spontaneously Disappear

submitted by: admin on 09/19/2013
Most of us believe that cancer only on rare occasions will disappear on their own, but our first inclination is to get rid of it. However, there is interesting new evidence that refutes this and calls into question what we're doing to deal with breast cancers clinically.

Breast Cancer Risks and Detection

submitted by: admin on 09/19/2013
Dr. Len and Nurse Vicki review factors that increase risk for and methods of screening for breast cancer. They cover mammograms, ultrasounds, manual examination, MRIs, and breast thermography.

Breast Cancer Screening

submitted by: admin on 09/19/2013
Should mammograms be done on women under the age of 50? The BCDDP study published in 1983 is reviewed. Five of six biopsies are not cancers. Older data on breast biopsies that suggests they spread cancer; it was later shown to be false.

Breast Cancer Screening in High Risk Patients

submitted by: admin on 09/19/2013
Different screening technologies are appropriate depending on your risk for developing breast cancer and situation. The pluses and minuses of mammograms, MRIs, and breast thermography for breast cancer screening are compared.

Breast Cancer Screening Premenopausally

submitted by: admin on 09/19/2013
No mainstgream screening test is reliable and they can lead to widespread overtreatment. A positive mammogram leads to too many biopsies, especially in dense breasts. Breast thermography is superior.

Breast Cancer: How to Screen for it

submitted by: admin on 09/19/2013
Screening for breast cancer is confusing and mammogams in younger women are simply not reliable. The screening tool that does work very well is breast thermography. The early work on this is reviewed.

Canadians Recommend Fewer Mammograms

submitted by: admin on 06/18/2016
The Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care now recommends mammograms every three years, no self breast examinations, and no clinical breast exams. They believe these procedures cause too many needless biopsies, mental anguish, and over treatment. This also leads to massive overtreatment of DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) which is only life-threatening...

Cancer

submitted by: admin on 02/16/2015
The definition of cancer means that cancer cells don't die as they are programmed, they lack apoptosis. The reasons for this range from genetic defects to overgrowth of chromosomes. Cancer is believed to be caused by genetic and epigenetic factors that include poor lifestyle, radiation exposure, infections, pollution, and more. The spread of cancer is complicated;...

Cancer Screening vs Prevention

submitted by: admin on 09/19/2013
Cancer is on the rise and cancer screening is being promoted. Early detection is not as important as you'd think. The pap smear, mammograms, colonoscopy, and PSA testing have major problems that lead to over or underdiagnosis and unnecessary treatment. Screens over the age of 70 has not been shown to be warranted.

Do Mammograms Do More Harm Than Good?

submitted by: admin on 11/22/2024
Mammograms under age 50 are controversial. The prestigious Cochrane Study Group concluded that they lead to overdiagnosis and overtreatment. Mammograms use x-rays to differentiate tissue density that is normal or cancerous; this is very difficult in women under age 50 because they have dense breast tissue that is similar to that of breast cancers. It takes almost...

Epigenetics of Breast Cancer

submitted by: admin on 06/25/2016
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) reviewed data about possible environmental risks for developing breast cancer. They felt that pesticides, beauty products, heousehold chemicals, and plastics might or might not be risk factors for breasts cancer. They did agree that medical x-rays were a clear risk for developing breast cancer. They recommended that...

Fewer Mammograms Needed for Low-Risk Women

submitted by: admin on 06/18/2016
Less frequent mammograms for wonem at low risk for breast cancer can be a cost effective way of saving lives. Women with no family history of breast cancer, no previous biopsy and breasts that are not dense need far fewer mammograms than women with these risk factors. For women under the age of 50 without these three risk factors, mammograms are not worthwhile....

Finding Breast Cancer Sooner

submitted by: admin on 09/21/2013
Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between the age of 40-44. We are trying to find breast cancers earlier in hopes of curing more. Yet screening technology is not working. Of the women who had breast cancer 28% had a mammogram and it was missed. Most biopsies are negative; this leads to excess cost and worry.

First Impressions Can be Harmful to Your Health

submitted by: admin on 10/22/2018
First impressions are powerful and lasting. This carries over into medicine big time. Once we become accustomed to a certain test or treatment we feel deprived when we don't have access to them. Dr. Len and Nurse Vicki review examples of this that include mammograms and breast thermography, drugs and infrared light therapy, routine lab testing and BioEnergy...

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and Beyond Mammography

submitted by: admin on 09/24/2013
The Women's Health Initiative documented that instead of preventing breast cancer, heart attacks, and strokes that it did just the opposite. The story behind the creation of HRT is shocking and Dr. Len and Nurse Vicki share it. The financial greed of big pharma is exposed. Yet women need help with their symptoms of menopause that make their quality of...

How Do You Know if the Treatment Your Doctor Prescribes is Good for You?

submitted by: admin on 03/05/2015
How Do You Know if the Treatment Your Doctor Prescribes is Good for You? According to an article published in the NY Times on February 2, 2015, far fewer people benefit from medical treatment than we're led to believe from our doctors, advertisements such as direct to consumer TV ads, ads in medical journals, and even in medical journal articles, and...
