How to Deal With Weight Issues Succsessfully
Weight loss programs don't work!
Today's weight management programs don't work over the long haul! Yet there is a $52 billion market that continues to convince overweight people that there is hope if they use the program or product offered by a particular company. This results in yo yo weight changes but but rarely in sustained weight loss. The bottom line is that ultimately most people who who have been on diets or weight loss products feel like a failure, suffer from low self esteem, and often give up in disgust with their weight management efforts. This is a lose-lose situation except, of course, for those people who are prospering from the income generated by their weight management programs and products!
A healthy lifestyle outweighs body size for overall quality of health
There is a new movement in the weight management field that is more accepting of whatever weight a person is, and focuses more on lifestyle measures that reduce inflammation through a healthy diet, improved fitness, better sleep, reduced stress, and less exposure to environmental toxins. This is a win-win approach as research verifies that a healthy lifestyle is more important than what you weigh, and that you can live a long and healthy life even if you are overweight. in fact, being a little overweight is associated with a longer life!
Taking the whole person into consideration when looking a what he or she weighs is of major importance. Quality of life issues that include self esteem and self confidence may be far more important than what a person weighs. In some situations, being overweight confers a longer life!
Being overweight is not just about overeating!
Medical research has shown that our appetite is regulated by a wide range of factors that have been poorly understood and, for the most part, ignored. In this section of DoctorSaputo.com we provide an indepth review of those factors as well as the solutions that should be considered to deal with weight management issues -- either too much or too little.
Calories in and calories out may have a basis in physics, but this is hardly ever the situation for people who are overweight. Factors that determine what you weigh include:
-
Diet
-
Hormonal factors such as thyroid, adrenal, and ovarian
-
The amount and type of exercise you do
-
PTSD
-
How well you sleep
-
Stress
-
Exposure to environmental toxins
-
Certain medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, beta blockers, steroids, anti-seizure medications
-
Quitting smoking
One size fits all approaches to sustainable weight loss are silly; we're all different! It is critical to deal with the underlying causes of why we are overweight, and this can be done by taking a complete history that includes the abovementioned factors, assessing our biochemical imbalances through labwork, and considering each person's unique life story.
Our weight is only one single aspect of a healthy lifestyle!
The secret to success in creating wellness is to do what you can that doable and works! Creating a wellness plan that is achievable will inspire further commitment and self confidence that "yes I can!" Today's approach to restoring and maintaining good health are centered on unrealistic goals anchored in what you weigh, and when that fails we tend to give up the whole idea being healthy even if we're overweight.

How to Lose Weight on a High Fat Diet
Research from the University of Jerusalem published in FASEB shows that a scheduled high fat diet leads to weight loss because of increased fat burning. Snacking upsets this process. A previous study published inCell Metabolism in early 2012 showed that feeding rats the same number of calories over 24 hours rather than over 8 hours also led to weight gain.
It appears that body metabolism is regulated by circadian rhythms of hormones such as cortisol, thyroid hormone, insulin, and leptin. Fasting between meals is important in maintaining fat burning rather than fat storage. Being on a scheduled high fat diet led to more weight loss than a scheduled low fat diet, but the reasons why are unknown.

Modest Weight Loss has Lasting Health Benefits
Overweight and obese people can benefit from a decade of health benefits by losing just 10% of their weight, even if they regain this weight later in the decade. This reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes by 58%. This minimal weight loss has been shown to have benefits on the long term impact of sleep apnes, high blood pressure, mobility, and overall quality of life.

When You Eat Affects Your Weight
When it comes to weight, when you eat may be as important as what and how much you eat according to an article in the May 2012 issue of Cell Metabolism. When mice on a high fat diet are restricted to consuming their meals (with the same number of calories) over eight hours as opposed to 24 hours, they gain less weight, had less fat in their liver, and had lower levels of inflammation.
Our hormones have a lot to do with how our body uses or stores what it takes in, and this determines whether or not fat will be made, stored, or burned.

Causes of Eating Disorders
Eating disorders (bulimia and anorexia) are frequently triggered by traumatic events such as severe grief, relationship problems, or abuse (physical, emotional, or sexual) when there is insufficient support from family or friends. Eight million people suffer from these conditions and 20% will die within 20 years, 35% will recover, and the remaining 45% will suffer from it lifelong. Only abouta 10% of people can get the very expensive treatment that often requires 6-12 months of inpatient care that can amount to $100,000.
SIgns for these eating disorders include weight loss, fear of weight gain, refusal to eat, wearing baggy clothes, excessive exercise, menstrual irregularities, loss of scalp hair and the self-perception of being overweight when actually thin.
