Birth control pills (BCPs) reduce bone density in a dose related relationship, but the effects are small and only develop after two years of use. Long term studies have not been done. A woman's risk of fractures later in life is influenced by the bone mass she gains in her teens through her 20s and this age group has the highest use of oral contraceptives....

The treatment of cancer today is limited to mainstream therapies that include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. In some states like California it is a felony to use integrative CAM therapies. Often times patients have to travel to other states or countries to obtain the treatment they want.

Physicians are primarily concerned with providing the best laboratory tests and patient care possible, and cost is not a huge consideration. A study published in Internal Medicine in April of 2013 showed that if hospitals would post the cost of tests on lab requisitions that MDs would pay more attention to ordering fewer and less expensive tests. In...

Most hypertension is caused by chronic stress and an overactive sympathetic nervous system. Emotional freedom is a path to intuitive, emotional and spiritual awakening. This is the path to inner peace. Emotional vampires suck you dry emotionally; they make you stop paying attention. There are different types such as the narcissist, the victim, the controller, the criticiser, and the borderline personality that use this style of behavior.

Certain drugs should be made available as soon as possible. However, generally this approach leads to a conflict of interest between the FDA and Big Pharma that brings drugs to market much easier.

Love and sexual intercourse go together in healthy relationships. Our sexual drive, nonetheless, is so powerful that we often have sex in relationships that are quite unsatisfactory and can lead to sexual dysfunction that includes hypoactive sexual desire, sexual arousal disorder, lack of orgasm, and painful sex (dysparunea).
Forty three percent of women...

What happened to Drs. Marcus Wellby, Ben Casey, and Kildare? How did physicians lose control of the practice of medicine? It began in the late 1980s when MDs refused to deal with the cost of delivering health care. They took the perspective that they would help their patients, but wanted nothing to do with regulating healthcare services. They gave...

Scientists at Tufts University School of Medicine claim that the primary goal of treatment in type 2 diabetes is no longer blood glucose control. They published this work in the February 2014 issue of the journal, American Family Physician. Doctors have been imprinted with the concept that control diabetes and you'll control its complications; while...

Losing a child from a mass murder is incomprehensively horrendous. We are outraged every time there is a mass murder, but what do we do to prevent another? Not much. Gun control is understandably a complicated issue because we certainly don't want to have a dangerously deranged person who is capable of a mass murder to have a gun.
Yet the second...

Commensal bacteria in the human intestine produce a neurotransmitter called GABA that may play a role in preventing or treating inflammatory bowel disease. Bifidobacter dentium produces large amounts of GABA that regulates pain and inflammation. GABA may reduce pain and inflammation by stimulating the GABA receptor sites on nerve cells in the brain...

Coca-Cola is intensifying its ads portraying the company as trying to lessen the epidemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes by producing better tasting artificial sweeteners and introducing smaller cans. This seems like full blown damage control to preserve the market for a product that is causing the the problem. In our opinion they are pretending they're...

A Bastyr University study showed that patients with type 2 diabetes who were being followed by MDs did better in controlling blood sugar levels when they received naturopathic care over 6 months. This points out that MDs don't practice the lifestyle measures that naturopaths recommend. Prevention is for the most part given lip service in mainstream medicine.
Conventional...

There is a pandemic of obesity and diets will not solve the problem because they are not scientifically sound. Our cells know what they need in our diet and if they don't get it they send messages to our appetite center saying eat. However, what we eat is not what we need; it is fast food that is relatively devoid of the nutrients we need. Environmental toxins...

The regulation of supplements is problematic. We clearly need regulation because supplement companies tend to make statements about what they do that is not proven, but at the same time we also need to have access to using them, especially if they are safe. A balanced regulation is what is needed. MD control of supplements is being suggested; yet they...
